Nigeria confirms 15 cases with 59 suspected cases of rare monkeypox disease

NIGERIA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has registered 59 suspected cases of Monkeypox with 15 confirmed, its Director-General, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, has said. Monkeypox is caused by a virus that is related to smallpox, the only human virus to have been eradicated. It causes less severe illness than smallpox, but is still quite dangerous. NIGERIA – The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has confirmed a case of the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant, also known as lineage B.1.617.2 in the country.
