USA — Sysmex America has introduced its XN-30 research use only automated hematology analyzer for malaria detection.

The XN-30 RUO analyzer can distinguish P. falciparum from non-falciparum species and determine the life cycle staging of the parasites detected using specialized reagents, a violet laser, and advanced algorithms.

Unlike current microscopy and PCR methods, minimal training is needed to use the XN-30 RUO.”

The XN-30 RUO can report the level of parasitemia in an ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) sample with a sensitivity as low as 20 malaria-infected red blood cells per microliter in as little as one minute.

Using fluorescent stains and flow-cell technology, the analyzer standardizes detection and enumeration of intracellular malarial parasites.

Current malaria testing necessitates highly trained researchers to examine infected blood cells under a microscope or to use rapid diagnostic tests that rely on antigen–antibody reactions. Both methods produce results in 15 to 30 minutes.

The analyzer is intended to boost the productivity of research labs that currently use manual microscopy for malaria detection or rely on rapid diagnostic tests to screen symptomatic patients. According to Sysmex, minimal training is required to use the system.

Also, Beckman Coulter Diagnostics debuted its DxU Iris Workcell, a fully automated system designed for high-volume laboratories that streamlines urinalysis workflow and reduces manual reviews to 4%.

The Arkray Aution Max 4030 urine chemistry analyzer is combined with the DxU 840m/850m Iris urine microscopy analyzer in the DxU Iris.

 It was created with digital flow morphology technology and auto-particle recognition software to allow laboratories to deliver standardized results through artificial intelligence.

The technology isolates, identifies, and characterizes urine particles in order to provide immediate, accurate, and repeatable results that can be verified onscreen.

The system includes an optional load and unload station that expands rack capacity to 190 onboard samples and an intuitive software user interface for navigating the analyzer menu, accessing key reference information, and simplifying user training in a format compatible with many of the company’s instruments.

It communicates with the PROService remote service tool, DxOne command central remote monitoring, and REMISOL Advance middleware from the company.
