SENEGAL – Senegal has revamped the National Centre of Orthopedic Equipment in Dakar which will benefit 2,500 patients with support from the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).

Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency provides health services to millions of people through the healthcare institutions it supports such as children’s hospitals and national hospitals.

Previously, the Turkish Agency upgraded the body mass index rehabilitation hall in the center in 2018 to include a prosthesis-orthotics production workshop, a physical therapy and rehabilitation department together with a department for the rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy.

The Agency further improved the department for the rehabilitation of children to incorporate a waiting room for patients and organized a four-week training program on physical therapy and rehabilitation for neurological-based physical disabilities.

TİKA also commissioned prosthetics and orthotics at Gülhane Training and Research Hospital which is affiliated with the University of Health Sciences in Ankara to provide physical therapy as well as orthopedics specialists.

As part of the new project, the prosthesis-orthotics production workshop was equipped with Turkish-made machinery and equipment which were supplied by TİKA to enhance quality healthcare services in Senegal.

The Orthopedic Center which operates independently under the Ministry of Health and Social Action also received specialists from Turkey who provided applied training on rehabilitation and use of the new equipment at the center.

DRC receives five incubators from TİKA

Meanwhile, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency has supplied five incubators to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to support healthcare delivery in the region.

The medical devices were delivered to health officials at a ceremony held in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, at the Ministry of Health.

TİKA has also implemented nearly 20 in the fields of education, health and capacity building since 2009 even though it does not have an office in the country to bolster the development efforts of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Moreover, the Turkish and DRC governments have signed agreements to improve the future of healthcare in the country as well as to create robust opportunities for both parties.

TİKA intends to continue carrying out projects in line with the development priorities of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in cooperation with the relevant official institutions and organizations.
