SAUDI ARABIA – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has hosted the 2nd Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit (RGMBS 2023) at the Hilton Hotel in Riyadh.

The Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit 2023 was inaugurated by Prince Abdullah bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, the Saudi minister of the National Guard, on 25th January 2023.

The second edition of RGMBS was organized by the Ministry of National Guard Health Affairs (MNGHA), in cooperation with the Ministry of Investment, from 25th January to 26th January 2023.

RGMBS 2023, which took place under the patronage of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, brought together the local, regional and international biotechnology community.

It saw the attendance of biomedical and health research experts, doctors, pharmaceutical and biotechnological industry experts, representatives of health institutions, health research funders, along with research and development experts from around the world.

This year’s summit featured scientific panel discussions focused on five key themes: cell and gene therapy, vaccines for infectious diseases, vaccines for cancer, genomics and precision medicine for rare diseases, and clinical trials and real-world evidence.

The health event was an ideal opportunity for experts to discuss current practices and the future of the medical biotechnology sector to consolidate Saudi Arabia’s position as a global biotechnology portal.

It aimed to consolidate the position of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a global gateway to medical biotechnology, by building international partnerships for medical biotechnology and creating programs to develop the national pharmaceutical industry.

It was a unique, interactive, and dynamic platform for key local and international players in biotech R&D and industry (RDI) to formulate the Riyadh Declaration for Biotechnology to make KSA a gateway to thriving biotechnology.

Moreover, the Riyadh Global Medical Biotechnology Summit 2023 aligns with the Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to strengthen the national economy based on research, knowledge, and research industries.

Attendees at the summit also pushed the boundaries of existing knowledge and practice while proposing innovative models and initiatives toward a targeted and sustainable medical biotechnology enterprise in KSA.
