INDIA – Authorities Think-tank, Niti Aayog and Unicef India have signed a letter of intent (LOI) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a deal for children.

The agreement seeks to formalize a framework of cooperation to launch the first report on the ‘State of India’s Children: Standing and Tendencies in Multidimensional Baby Development,’ reiterating a mutual commitment to realizing the rights of children in India.

The agreement was signed by Sanyukta Samaddar, Niti Aayog’s Nodal Officer for SDGs, and Hyun Hee Ban, Unicef India’s Chief of Social Policy, in the presence of Niti Aayog Vice Chairman Rajiv Kumar and CEO Amitabh Kant, as well as Arjan de Wagt, Unicef India’s Officer-in-Cost Deputy Consultant.

To achieve the SDGs’ child development priorities, Unicef India and Niti Aayog are developing a comprehensive measure to know the multidimensional attainments and deprivations amongst children in well-being and diet.

Other factors under consideration include education, water and sanitation, family dwelling necessities, and protecting the setting, with the goal of analyzing the standing of children around important baby-related SDGs to determine current tendencies.

According to an official statement, this effort will contribute to the realization of India’s commitments under the 2030 Agenda and provide a set of policy recommendations for concerted action when it comes to accelerating progress toward the SDGs to ‘leave no child behind’ and achieving their holistic growth.

Rajiv Kumar stated, “This child-focused SDG initiative builds on our effort of monitoring progress by the SDG India Index and Dashboard, which continues to be a singular data-driven initiative for triggering coverage motion.

“This new initiative with Unicef is constructed on the ethos of SDG attainments for youngsters and making certain that no baby is left behind.”

Arjan de Wagt stated that addressing the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on children is critical to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Complete measurement of children’s standing will pave the way for multi-sectoral policies and programs in well-being and diet, education, safe water and sanitation, child safety, social safety, and local weather motion to reach the most vulnerable youngsters.

The collaboration between Niti Aayog and Unicef India will develop the strategies, technical evaluation, reporting, and action planning for the first report on the ‘Standing of India’s Children,’ which will address the multidimensional aspects of child development such as health, education, diet, safety, and other related areas.

This challenge will undertake a whole-of-society strategy involving all stakeholders starting from Union ministries, state governments, civil society organizations, and baby rights collectives, the official statement added.
