NIGERIA – The Nigerian Petroleum Development Company, indigenous oil and gas company ND Western Limited and the Independent Petroleum Producers Group (IPPG) of Nigeria have inaugurated an ultra-modern COVID-19 molecular laboratory Centre in Warri, Delta State.

The DeltaPlus Diagnostics houses a well-equipped molecular laboratory offering COVID-19 and blood testing services to hospitals, health management organizations (HMOs), corporations and individuals within Delta State and beyond.

The laboratory offers services such as COVID-19 PCR Testing, Tumor markers/Cancer Screening Test, HIV Detection, HIV Viral Load, HPV Detection, STD Panel, Respiratory Panel, Hepatitis B Test Tuberculosis, Oncology, Stem cell Research, Diabetes Screening, SNP Genotype among others.

It will also provide critical medical diagnostics services to residents in the South-South region of Nigeria with authorization by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control to reduce the need to travel long distances for the health services.

The advanced laboratory equipment provided in the medical facility will enable the clinic to obtain more accurate health data as well as enhance the skills of the health personnel to improve the access to quality diagnostic, timely and accurate treatment to patients.

Additionally, it will help in establishing the effectiveness of the clinic by providing credible analytical capability that will save the lives of many in our host communities and others.

Molecular Diagnostic Laboratories provide research platforms utilizing special equipment in the facility to assist doctors in making decisions on diagnosis, treatment and examination methods by providing an array of information

Consequently, the new Laboratory will extend the range of available information to physicians and other medical professionals in the Niger Delta region.

The medical facility is a corporate social responsibility initiative of the Independent Petroleum Producers Group, ND Western Limited and the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited which is a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited.

Moreover, ND Western, Nigerian think tank Bloom Public Health and Nigerian provider of laboratory equipment Katchey Laboratories entered into a strategic partnership to help finance the health project.

Chief Executive officer of ND Western Eberechukwu Oji said DeltaPlus Diagnostics will work together with the Federal Government to offer practical solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He urged groups responsible for carrying out health care services in the host communities of the Niger Delta region to ensure adequate support of the facility for the diagnostic testing needs of patients.

Earlier, IPPG introduced a grassroots-focused sensitization campaign nationwide to support the national effort of mitigating the impact and curbing the spread of COVID-19 in Nigeria at the height of the pandemic in 2020.

The Petroleum Group also donated medical consumables and in-patient support systems such as Personal Protective Equipment, COVID-19 Test-kits, well-equipped Ambulances, Premium ventilators and Intensive Care Unit Beds.
