INDIA – Medtronic plc, a global leader in medical technology, services, and solutions, has appointed Michael Blackwell as Vice President of India Medtronic Pvt. Ltd., effective January 2023.

Michael Blackwell succeeds Madan Krishnan, who will move to a new global role in the United States as Vice President & Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Medtronic’s Medical Surgical portfolio.

In this role, he will be responsible for sales, marketing, and commercial operations of Medtronic’s India business to further strengthen its position as a leading healthcare technology company.

Michael will be appointed as the Managing Director of Medtronic India in due course, according to the medical device company.

Commenting on the change in leadership, Feng Dong, Vice President, Asia Region-led Markets, Global Regions, Medtronic said: “We are confident that his insights, innovation-driven mindset, and strong leadership skills will help take our India business forward.”

He has over 20 years of experience in the healthcare industry besides having a proven track record of driving growth spanning multiple geographies and varied market dynamics.

Upon being notified of his appointment, Michael said: “I am excited about my new role and to be able to contribute to our mission of alleviating pain, restoring health, and extending lives.”

He pointed out that Medtronic has been transforming healthcare in India for over 40 years through innovations and solutions that provide quality healthcare and improve patient outcomes.

He expressed his willingness to collaborate with the Medtronic India team to ensure they continue to achieve greater milestones for India’s healthcare sector.

Michael, a seasoned executive who joined Medtronic in 2006, brings with him a diverse range of experiences across markets and therapies.

He has progressed through multiple business groups at Medtronic, including Cardiovascular, Neuroscience, and Medical Surgical before his current role.

In the United States, Medtronic elected Michael Blackwell as the Vice President of Sales for the Advanced Surgical division, West Area, and the National Hernia Lead within the Medical Surgical business group.

Michael’s earlier assignments involved, leading the Cardiovascular group for Medtronic Canada,” the company confirmed.

In his last assignment with Medtronic, Michael led the Frontier Markets consisting of Indonesia, Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Guam, Brunei, Nepal, Maldives, Bhutan, Fiji, and New Papa Guinea.

During his tenure, he also served as the Director of Strategic Accounts along with multiple manager positions across Medtronic’s portfolios.

Michael has also taken an active role in Medtronic’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) including a leadership position in the African Descent Network (ADN), and acting as a liaison to the Asia Impact at Medtronic – Field Acceleration Resource Group (AIM – FAR).
