IRELAND – Medtronic has partnered with Vizient, a healthcare performance improvement firm based in the United States, to add its Touch Surgery Enterprise platform to Vizient’s offerings.
Touch Surgery Enterprise is a surgical video management and analytics platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI).
It is said to make recording, analyzing, and sharing surgical video easier, allowing surgeons to improve their performance and train others.
Touch Surgery Enterprise connects to the cloud and synchronizes with a variety of laparoscopic and robotic scopes, allowing hospitals to digitalize their operating rooms while retaining existing equipment.
The system is also compatible with the Hugo robot-assisted surgery system from Medtronic.
Medtronic digital surgery vice president and general manager George Murgatroyd said: “Touch Surgery Enterprise allows surgeons to use data to refine the way surgery is taught and executed, and we believe that will raise the standard of healthcare for all.
“This agreement with Vizient allows us to build on the strong interest we’re seeing globally, to support hospitals in the US who are looking to harness the power of surgical video data and analysis.”
Vizient, a healthcare services company, provides data-driven solutions, expertise, and collaborative opportunities that lead to improved patient outcomes and lower costs.
The company serves more than half of the country’s acute care providers, including academic medical centers, community hospitals, and pediatric facilities, as well as a number of non-acute care providers.
The Touch Surgery Enterprise platform, which includes the DS1 computer and controller, makes AI-powered surgical video and data available at any time and from any location via the Touch Surgery App.
The app is available for free download and serves as a platform for surgeons to plan, practice, and teach surgical procedures.
Surgeons can access the videos from their mobile phone or laptop, providing them with a powerful new tool for training, analysis, and collaboration.
Touch Surgery Enterprise automatically records surgical video. Then, it delivers it to the cloud, offering a way for surgeons to review specific steps while also being useful for training purposes.
