LIBERIA – Liberia’s Ministry of Health has secured a consignment of assorted medical drugs worth over US$168,000 from Ghanaian pharmaceutical company Entrance Pharmaceuticals & Research Center (EPRC) to enhance patients’ access to life-saving essential drugs.
EPRC is the leading pharmaceutical manufacturing Company in Ghana with technology for the manufacture of non-sterile preparations including anti-malaria and other essential medicines in line with World Health Organization recommendations.
The company is the member of the Tobinco Group of Companies which focuses on wholesale and retailing of specific pharmaceutical products to all 16 regions in Ghana and currently exports to 16 countries in Africa including Liberia.
Entrance Pharmaceuticals and Research Centre is the manufacturing subsidiary of Tobinco Group, commissioned in the first quarter of 2014.The company manufactures non-sterile preparations, including anti-malaria, ARVs and other essential medicines in line with WHO recommendations.
The Entrance Pharmaceuticals & Research Center donated a 40-footer container full load of drugs including X’feron Syrup both for adult and children and Metronidazole 125mg Suspension for children and covered the cost of production, shipment, clearing and delivery of the medical supplies.
Liberian Health Minister Dr. Wilhemina Jallah accompanied by the Chairman of the Committee on Health of the House of Representatives Joseph N. Somwarbi received the consignment of assorted medical drugs at the Central Medical Store of Ministry of Health.
Speaking at the Ministry of Health while handing over the donation, Ghana’s Ambassador to Liberia Kwabena Okube Appiah said that the consignment of assorted medical drugs is part of EPRC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR).
Ambassador Kwabena Okube Appiah further said that EPRC’s corporate social responsibility initiatives to the people of Liberia will by extension enhance the already long existing bond of friendship and cordial relationship between the Liberia and that of Ghana.
EPRC Managing Director of International Trade Division Justice Essuman stated that pharmaceutical company shares back its profit to meet good CSR efforts to partners and stakeholder countries to support their health needs and other sectors in improving the social standard of their communities.
He revealed that Entrance Pharmaceuticals & Research Center in Ghana has dedicated facilities for the manufacture of beta-lactams (penicillin) and non-beta-lactams (non-penicillin), noting that the company’s mission is to meet the pharmaceutical needs of the sub-region.
“EPRC’s mission is to meet the pharmaceutical needs of the sub-region by using innovative approaches to deliver premium quality products through its highly trained and dedicated staff in qualified premises, while it aspires to be the premium provider of quality pharmaceutical products,” he added.
Justice Essuman presented the essential medicines on behalf of the Executive Chairman of Tobinco Group and the Management of EPRC to the Liberian Minister of Health and her management team for effective management and distribution through health facilities to reach the affected patients in Liberia.
