KENYA – Kenya’s Ministry of Health has launched a digital platform dubbed Lifeyangu.com to improve access to sexual and reproductive health-related information among young people.

The e-health platform will provide credible information about relevant reproductive health facilities, contraceptive options among other topics on sexual reproductive health services to Kenyans aged between 18 to 24 years.

It enables users to access sexual and reproductive health services in a confidential manner by identifying nearby health facilities near as well as providing a safe environment for the youth to share information.

The Lifeyangu.com platform will address the challenge of accessing credible reproductive health specialists and information online in Kenya while covering the growing need to promote additional information about sexual health to the youth.

The health ministry inaugurated the platform in partnership with a consortium of local and international organizations led by Deutsche Stiftung Welbevölkerung (DSW) and Bayer East Africa to address information gaps in areas of reproductive health.

Kisumu’s Acting County Executive Committee member for Health Dr. George Rae confirmed that 106 public clinics have been earmarked for the first phase of the health project which was established through a public-private partnership.

Lifeyangu.com, developed by DSW and Bayer, has come at the right time when the need for appropriate reproductive health services and access to technology intersect,” said Dr George Rae.

He added that the like-minded organizations entered the digital health agreement with an aim to bring effective solutions that change Kenyans’ lives.

Dr George Rae asserted that the government has initiated a raft of measures to create an environment conducive to innovation that will positively impact all Kenyans including the young people while noting that there was need to ensure young people are able to access online tools to advance their lives.

In 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta committed to employing Innovation, Communication and Technology to ensure adolescents and youth attain the highest standards of health during the International Conference on Population and Development, Nairobi Summit,” he highlighted.

The Kenyan government launched the digital health platform to create a healthy space where youth find accurate and appropriate information and where their questions and concerns stay private to avoid exposing them to stigma and suspicion by peers and parents or guardians.

Additionally, the platform will enhance youth’s access to comprehensive information about sex , knowledge about the risks they may face and their vulnerability to adverse consequences of unprotected sexual activity along with ability to access sexual health care.
