KENYA – Jubilee Health Insurance has partnered with Chiromo Hospital Group to launch a mental wellness programme offering clients preventive and curative services.

The programme will allow customers to access digital mental assessments (psychometrics) and wellness and life coaching sessions, including chronic disease management and professional counselling.

Customers will access the services under three packages designed by Jubilee Health, with the annual cost ranging between KSh.13,000 (US$104.71) and KSh.39,000 (US$314.14).

The mental health cover targets both existing Jubilee Health customers and non-customers. It is an additional service to existing customers’ medical policies allowing them to access mental health services from Chiromo.

“Our partnership with Chiromo Hospital Group is driven by our shared purpose to offer practical and accessible solutions that enable individuals to prevent, treat and manage mental health conditions,” said Jubilee Health Insurance chief executive Njeri Jomo.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), depression and anxiety have a significant economic impact, with the estimated cost to the global economy being US$1 trillion per year in lost productivity.

Although treatment for mental health has increasingly become available, there is still a huge disparity in access and affordability.

“As a result of our partnership with Jubilee Health Insurance, we have designed a solution that will empower individuals by providing a holistic approach to mental health treatment and management,” said Chiromo Hospital Group founder Dr. Frank Njenga.

Jubilee Insurance Group chief executive Dr. Julius Kipngetich reiterated that the partnership was in line with the insurer’s commitment to advocate for wellness and provide suitable health interventions for people across all demographics.

In March last year, M-TIBA, a Safaricom-owned mobile health platform, announced a  partnership with Jubilee Health Insurance to provide health insurance to over 3,000 lives via their Group Micro Health Product.

The product launched in April 2021 has greatly benefited over 45 SMEs across Nairobi, Kisumu, Meru and the Mt. Kenya regions.

The quick uptake has been made easier through the M-TIBA platform where users can conveniently view their health covers and track their insurance spend via their mobile phones.

The partnership has seen both M-TIBA and Jubilee Health insurance work closely with over 600 insurance providers with a goal of achieving steady growth across the country with an overall goal of providing affordable insurance solutions to Kenyan SME’s.

M-TIBA is a health financing and technology platform that connects the most important stakeholders to improve healthcare access and affordability.

The digitization of these processes is driving an increase in access and a decrease in operational costs.

M-TIBA gives scheme administrators a detailed view of how healthcare is being utilized and paid, thereby informing better decision making on health investments, epidemic responses, and quality of care.
