INDIA – Hospals, India’s largest cross border health benefits & travel platform, has announced that it has rebranded itself as HealthTrip.com with an ambition to boost medical tourism in India.

Hospals has changed its name to HealthTrip and logo to establish itself as the largest health travel platform in the world, enabling customers to find the best medical, dental, wellness and cosmetic treatments across the world, book appointment, flights, hotels, sightseeing, and get interpreters, loans, and insurance, in a single seamless experience.

The startup has already partnered with 150 hospitals and clinics in India, Turkey, UAE, and South East Asia.

The healthtech was cofounded by Danish Obaid and Suneel Kapur in 2020. Suneel had earlier worked as the Group Sales head for Fortis Hospitals and Chief Marketing Officer at Radiant Group, which recently acquired Max Healthcare.

With medical treatments seeing 20 per cent inflation across the western world, and flight prices dropping 60 per cent, the medical tourism in India will benefit from a fast-growing global trend where people travel abroad and get significant savings on medical costs.

The Health tourism sector is a US$78 billion industry globally growing at 25 percent CAGR.

With millions of patients waiting for surgeries since the past 2 years and thousands of medical travel companies shutting operations during Covid, Hospals is rapidly scaling its operations to service this backlog.

The startup had recently raised Pre-Series A investment from Inflection Point Ventures, 9unicorns, Wavemaker and prominent angels like Kunal Shah, Deepinder Goyal and others.

In India, the government has designated medical tourism as a champion sector and allocated 2000 crore (approximately US$258 million) to promote “HealInIndia” taking the sector from US$5 billion to US$13 billion by 2026.

Similar initiatives have been taken by UAE, Turkey and Thailand as they seek to acquire a significant share of the expected growth in Health Tourism.

With Medical treatments seeing 20 percent inflation across the western world and flight prices dropping 60 percent, HealthTrip will benefit from a fast-growing global trend where people travel abroad and get significant savings on medical costs.

For example, an Australian flying to Thailand, getting a root canal there, visiting its beautiful islands and flying back, will spend the same amount or lesser, than the cost of a root canal in Australia.
