INDIA – HealthPlix Technologies has launched SmartScan, which automatically scans patient lab reports, structures vital signs, and populates them into an EMR platform for physicians.

The company used AI-powered OCR technology and developed this feature in-house to provide doctors with information about the patient’s health at the time of care.

SmartScan is based on built-in intelligence from over 100 lab test templates to ensure the accuracy of vital health indicators entered into the EMR – thus making it future-proof.

On average, a doctor takes 6-8 minutes to review a patient’s health history and analyze physical exam reports.

SmartScan aims to reduce that time by 30 to 40 percent and relieve physicians of the pain point of reviewing physical lab reports, the company claimed.

According to the company, using AI-powered OCR, data is digitized and converted into easy-to-use, editable formats that help automate organizational workflows.

SmartScan is one such AI-OCR that works seamlessly with the EMR platform and allows patients to download any lab report for further diagnosis.

It helps doctors with a ready view of current and historical test values. Importantly, this feature requests patient consent and uploads patient-approved lab reports to the testing section of the patient dashboard.

The company also claimed that it is the first time AI-OCR was tapped by an EMR player in the Indian healthcare industry.

It not only scans test reports of patients but also enables doctors to deliver precise and personalized care to their patients, it stated.

By giving doctors knowledge about patients’ health vitals even before they arrive at a clinic, it helps them save time and work more effectively.

In July, HealthPlix hit another milestone of integrating a new drug-to-drug interaction feature on its EMR platform.

The new tool on the HealthPlix EMR is said to reduce the time taken in writing prescriptions by assisting doctors in recalling molecule-to-molecule interactions at the point of care.

Before, doctors relied on external platforms to check drug-to-drug interactions, which prolongs the prescription process.

The feature comes with a reference interactions library that helps doctors identify potentially unsafe combinations of medications.

A well-defined reference interactions library can assist doctors in identifying potentially unsafe combinations of medications.

The new drug-to-drug interactions feature follows the release of the doctor insights and patient summary dashboards on the EMR app.
