ANGOLA – The General Hospital of Cabinda (HGC) will soon be turned into a National and International Centre for training staff, with several specialization areas.

The Minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta announced this saying that the facility has the valences necessary to house national specialised training hubs.

Silvia Lutucuta also announced plans for the Ministry of Health (MINSA) to set up specialised training centre for professionals in the sector, including physicians, nurses, diagnostic technicians and general practitioners.

She considered Cabinda hospital a national reference, equipped with many facilities and with competent professionals to pass on knowledge to other technicians.

She also announced the arrival of about 175 doctors in Cabinda, for a rotation of knowledge transmission as part of socialised training.

Lutucuta hopes that by the end of this five-year period, MINSA will have more than 3,000 specialist doctors and an equal number of nurses and diagnosis technicians.

During a meeting, held with members of the unit’s clinical staff, the minister was informed of the productivity and the significant decrease in critical cases of evacuation of patients to the country’s capital city.

The Cabinda General Hospital was designed to meet the needs of the population of this province, so that its inhabitants can benefit from medical and medication assistance, as well as the provision of a quality service.

In order to guarantee favourable conditions for the users of this sector, a better quality of assistance, and to provide an increase in treatment techniques in all areas of activity.

The building is located on a plot of approximately 39,150 square metres, with 9 floors, and contains technical and administrative complementary areas, with inpatient services, surgeries, emergency and delivery rooms, among other services.

The hospital unit has a capacity for 200 beds distributed between adult wards on floor 6, paediatrics on floor 5, gynaecology and obstetrics on floor 4 and intensive care located on floor 3.

Cabinda General Hospital was created to provide services that did not exist in the province or in the country, such as personalised hospitalisation, differentiated delivery services that offer comfort to mothers and newborns.

Other services include a neonatal and adult intensive care unit, as well as cardio-pneumology services, minimal access surgery, nephrology, pathology, haemodynamics services and respective means of diagnosis.

The unit will also increase the National Health Service’s capacity to carry out magnetic resonance, CT, mammography and electroencephalogram exams, as well as providing diagnostic resources to other services.

With the Cabinda General Hospital, many citizens will stop spending on trips to Luanda or abroad to seek better medical care, due to the lack of specialised services in the province.
