USA – GE Healthcare has partnered with AliveCor, a medical device and artificial intelligence company based in the United States, to improve patient convenience and help reduce cardiac-related hospitalizations by improving patient data integration.

Under the terms of the agreement, medical-grade six-lead electrocardiograms (ECGs) obtained by patients using an AliveCor KardiaMobile 6L ECG device will be integrated into GE Healthcare’s MUSE Cardiac Management System for evaluation by physicians.

According to GE Healthcare, the integration will aid physicians in the management of diagnosed cardiac conditions by providing access to trusted patient data and the ability to manage cardiac-related hospitalizations such as atrial fibrillation.

The most common type of treated heart arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, is associated with a significantly increased risk of stroke.

Every year, more than 454,000 patients are hospitalized and 158,000 people die as a result of atrial fibrillation in the United States alone.

The FDA-approved KardiaMobile 6L ECG device with artificial intelligence (AI) can detect atrial fibrillation as well as other heart rhythm conditions.

MUSE from GE Healthcare is a cardiac management system that connects to the hospital’s electronic medical record (EMR) for easy data transaction and analysis, resulting in better patient care.

The integration will aid in the delivery of more efficient and timely care to patients at the 87 percent of top cardiac hospitals that use GE MUSE.

The clinician will now have streamlined access to cardiac data from patients from anywhere, making it easier to provide lifesaving care.

Reliance on ECG real-time data

Today, cardiologists often rely on real-time data from personal electrocardiogram (ECG) devices to help manage patients with cardiac conditions like atrial fibrillation (AFib).

AliveCor’s KardiaMobile 6L ECG offers the only clinically validated six-lead detection of AFib and other common arrhythmias.

That’s why AliveCor and GE Healthcare are partnering to integrate KardiaMobile 6L ECG data directly into hospital workflows to streamline and improve patient care.

GE Healthcare life care solutions business president and CEO Tom Westrick said: “By teaming up with AliveCor, we are strengthening the connection between personal health and clinical decision making to transform cardiac care to be more convenient for patients and actionable for providers.”

AliveCor CEO Priya Abani said: “Delivering medically validated ECG readings taken with KardiaMobile 6L directly into MUSE can help facilitate closer connection and better communication about treatment and care between physicians and their patients, even when they are not physically together.”
