ETHIOPIA – Ethiopia has refurbished and equipped a health center that will benefit nearly 3,000 people with financial boost from Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA).
The health center was reequipped with crucial medical equipment such as autoclaves, microscopes, gurneys, examination tables and centrifuge machines to benefit law enforcement officers and detainees in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia.
The health center employs 11 healthcare providers from different specialties to serve hundreds of detainees together with law enforcement officers and their families,
The launching ceremony of the health center was attended by the Turkish Ambassador to Addis Ababa Yaprak Alp, TİKA’s Program Coordinator in Ethiopia Cengiz Polat and Ethiopian officials.
TİKA’s Program Coordinator Cengiz Polat noted that the agency has greatly impacted people’s lives by providing state-of-the-art medical devices and equipment to the health center which functions under difficult conditions.
He further acknowledged that 2022 marked TİKA’s 30th anniversary while revealing that the office in Addis Ababa was TİKA’s first office in Africa.
TİKA has implemented nearly 200 projects in the Ethiopia since 2005 including the donation of medical supplies, crutches, and wheelchairs to hospitals in the provinces of Afar and Tigray in 2016.
Polat reaffirmed that the agency was working to improve the quality of health services at the health center to ensure it operated under better conditions to put a little smile on people.
Turkey donates medical devices to Guinea-Bissau
Meanwhile, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency has donated 5 fully-equipped incubators to the newborn intensive care unit in the Pediatric Department at Simao Mendes National Hospital in Guinea-Bissau.
The donation provided to the hospital arrives after new cleaning measures and a renovated ventilation system were inaugurated at the newborn intensive care unit to ensure the facility served under better conditions.
In addition, bags, stationery items and hygiene sets were distributed to the children in need who were treated at the hospital after the delivery ceremony.
The delivery ceremony for the incubators provided by the Turkish agency was attended by the Deputy Minister of Health of Guinea-Bissau Quiletche Na Isna and Bülent Korkmaz, Head of the Department of the Middle East and Africa at TİKA.
Bülent Korkmaz pointed out that the agency donated the incubators donation project for maternal and child health as a gift for the people of Guinea-Bissau.
He also noted that TİKA visited Bissau to strengthen the friendly ties between the people of Guinea-Bissau and Turkey as well as to discuss various development projects.
“We had the chance to see the activities we can carry out and the industries we will prioritize in this country,” stressed the Head of the Department of the Middle East and Africa at TİKA.
TİKA has been carrying out various projects and activities in the industries of health, education, agriculture, and administrative infrastructure in the country since 2017.
The agency also seeks to partner with Guinea-Bissau in the agriculture sector and service industry which ranks 175th among 189 countries in the UN’s Human Development Index.
