EGYPT – Alameda Healthcare, leading private healthcare group in Egypt, and British CMR Surgical have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that establishes a collaborative partnership that aims to improve access to robotic surgery in Egypt.

The partnership is in line with Alameda’s commitment to offer patients access to the Egypt’s most advanced medical solutions and bring the latest technology in their hospitals for world class services.

The Healthcare Group will purchase four of CMR Surgical’s Versius robots over the next 4 years as part of the agreement with the first set of robots scheduled for installation in March 2022 at As-Salam International Hospital, Maadi.

The installation of next-generation surgical robots will enable surgeons to perform various complex surgeries with minimal incisions and better precision.

The patient will also experience less pain after surgery and shall be discharged much faster than traditional open procedures.

As part of the agreement, a training center for robotic surgery will be established to provide surgeons with direct access to robotic surgery training using the latest technologies with the help of world class professionals.

CMR Surgical will provide comprehensive training for surgeons and nursing teams across several specialty departments which will contribute to the development of a tailored medical technology roadmap for Egypt.

The partnership will also facilitate the establishment of a joint governance committee with the ultimate goal of optimizing, expanding and advancing patient-centric care.

The adaptability and versatility of the Versius system allows us to train a number of surgeons from a wide range of specialties on the system while continuing to pioneer the expansion of robotic surgery in Egypt,” said Dr. Fahad Khater, the Chairperson and Owner of Alameda Healthcare.

Remote surgery, early diagnosis, improved patients monitoring, difficult disease treatment are among the benefits of advanced medical facilities.

75,000 babies undergo genetic screening

In latest progress, the Egyptian Ministry of Health and Population has announced screening of 75,000 babies for genetic diseases since the launch of the presidential initiative.

The first phase consisted of screening babies born at public hospitals while the second phase involved babies born at university hospitals, private hospitals and healthcare units,” reported the health ministry.

The diseases babies are screened for include hereditary hyperlipidemia deficiency, maple urine disease, high homocysteine ​​in urine, biotinidase deficiency to mention a few.

The way diseases are diagnosed, treated or prevented has the potential to extend and save lives for example COVID-19 tests and vaccination campaigns are vital factors in efforts to eradicate coronavirus.

Egypt to ease precautionary COVID-19 measures

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Scientific Committee to Combat the Coronavirus Pandemic Hossam Hosni said that Egypt would ease COVID-19 precautionary measures when the vaccination rate reached 70%.

The basic symptoms of the coronavirus and its mutations have become less prevalent than in previous waves indicating that if 70% of citizens are vaccinated, the precautionary measures will be eased,” he maintained.

Currently, Egypt has completed 30% to 40% of its vaccination campaign against the coronavirus.

He further said that the state’s medical services now offer home visits and that the country has an abundance of vaccines amounting to more than 70 million doses which indicates awareness of the need to receive the vaccine has increased among Egyptians.

Furthermore, the international standard for COVID-19 vaccination is now three doses and all vaccines are safe and effective without presenting any danger to reproduction.
