NIGERIA – Bloom Public Health has commenced the physical construction of the premier pharmaceutical manufacturing park in Nigeria (#Pharmacity) in Ebonyi State.

The CEO of Bloom, Professor Chimezie Anyakora, was live at the ground-breaking ceremony at Ntezi Community, in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State. Other board members of Salt City Pharma Park Development Company Ltd were in attendance as well as contractors and engineers.

Conceived and championed by Bloom Public Health, the Pharmacity project refers to compact modern-day pharmaceutical industrial estates that bring together pharmaceutical companies of various sizes, service providers and companies providing support services to co-locate and share infrastructure.

According to Bloom, the concept of #Pharmacity is to have multiple pharmaceutical manufacturing hubs in different locations within Nigeria, with a vision of creating a sustainable environment to make quality medicines available and affordable.

In Nigeria, the pharmaceutical sector cannot meet the enormous demand for medicines because of its poor local manufacturing capacity; high cost of pharmaceutical manufacturing, lack of supportive infrastructure for the regulatory compliance of pharmaceutical manufacturing companies; amongst others.

Pharmacity – the first Indigenous Pharmaceutical Park, is an intervention that strives to tackle the unmet needs for both demand and supply of medicines.

The intervention brings in all key stakeholders including the government, academia, professionals and private sector to revolutionize indigenous drug manufacturing and reposition Nigeria to benefit from freer trade on the continent while increasing exports.

This intervention tackles the existing challenges within the industry including infrastructure, regulatory policy and access to affordable and reasonable funding.

Pharmacity is a compact modern-day pharmaceutical industrial estate bringing together pharmaceutical companies of various sizes, service providers and companies providing support services to co-locate and share infrastructure.

It will serve as a means to increase Nigeria’s medicine and health product manufacturing capacity and enable her to reach her full potential while ensuring strict adherence to international standards.

The park will be a one-stop-shop, providing numerous services to address the needs of the pharmaceutical companies situated within.

The Pharmacity is categorized into five zones, each complimenting the other, to create a humane industrial estate that maintains a balance between work, play, learning and living.
