MALAWI – African Medical and Research Foundation (AMREF) and Shaping Our Future Foundation (SOFF) have entered into a strategic partnership to support the advancement of education for Malawian children and community-based health care activities.

AMREF and Shaping Our Future Foundation will work together in accelerating the attainment of education among marginalized girls in the country through enhancement of sexual and reproductive health and rights.

African Medical and Research Foundation is the largest health development non-governmental international Organisation based in Africa committed to improving health. AMREF is currently having its programs in over 35 countries in 35 countries across Africa.

The partnership will AMREF’S extensive knowledge and expertise to bring in the missing element of support to link community-based health care activities and workers that will benefit school-going girls and boys in Malawi.

I am confident that the partnership between AMREF and the Shaping Our Future Foundation will help marginalized girls stay in school with improved learning outcomes and engage communities to change social norms that devalue girls and their education.

In addition, the partnership aims to ensure health services and important health information are linked to Malawian students hence guaranteeing that boys and girls have information about sexual and reproductive health issues.

The partnership focused on child health and development comes at a time when close to 50% of Malawian girls get into marriage before the age of 18 while 9% getting married before the age of 15.

AMREF will work closely with Shaping Our Future Foundation in supporting the government’s efforts in advancing education for children of Malawi for a better Malawi.

Group Chief Executive Officer for AMREF Githinji Gitahi said the Kenyan-based Organisation is committed to working with SOFF and Malawi’s First Lady in many areas of need including capacity building for the team at SOFF along with grant development training for girl nurses and midwives.

The First Lady of the Republic of Malawi Madame Monica Chakwera said that the partnership between the two organizations will help marginalized girls stay in school with improved learning outcomes and engage communities to change social norms that devalue girls and their education.

Madame Monica Chakwera acknowledged that the partnership will greatly contribute to the goal of ensuring access, retention and completion of secondary school education while lauding AMREF for joining hands with SOFF.

Chakwera stressed that there is dire need to protect, educate and empower girls of Malawi if the country is to realize the sustainable goals, adding that this is why SOFF exists.

Furthermore, Shaping Our Future Foundation highlights that the charitable group will work with Government partners, non-governmental organizations, community structures, women and girls and all Malawians who share the vision of an inclusive and prosperous Malawi.
